Alocasia plants thrive in loose, well-draining, and organic-rich soil. A mix of peat moss, leaf mold, and perlite (or coarse sand) in a 2:1:1 ratio is ideal, with a slightly acidic pH of 5.5–6.5. Avoid heavy, compact soils to prevent root suffocation. Adding charcoal granules enhances antibacterial properties and aeration, mimicking their native rainforest humus environment.

Alocasia requires bright, indirect light (1,500–3,000 lux) and must be shielded from direct sunlight (to prevent leaf scorch). Place near east- or north-facing windows, or use 40–50% shade cloth. Insufficient light leads to thin, dull foliage; supplement with full-spectrum LED grow lights for 4–6 hours daily. Avoid prolonged low light in winter to prevent dormancy.

Water thoroughly when the top 2–3 cm of soil dries out, ensuring no waterlogging. In summer, water every 3–5 days; reduce to 7–10 days in winter. Use room-temperature soft water (e.g., rainwater or dechlorinated tap water). Maintain 70–80% humidity with misting to keep leaves turgid, adjusting watering frequency accordingly.

During active growth (spring to fall), apply balanced liquid fertilizer (e.g., N-P-K 20-20-20) diluted to half strength every 2–3 weeks. Alternate with calcium-magnesium foliar sprays (e.g., seaweed extract) to prevent leaf-tip burn. Stop fertilizing in winter dormancy. Avoid excess nitrogen to prevent leggy growth. Incorporate slow-release pellets (e.g., Osmocote A2) during spring repotting.

As tropical plants, Alocasia prefers 18–28°C and must stay above 15°C in winter (temperatures below 10°C cause frost damage). A 5–8°C Day-night temperature difference enhances metabolic activity. In summer heat (>32°C), boost airflow to prevent fungal issues. Shield from AC drafts to avoid leaf dehydration.

Division: Separate rooted offsets during spring repotting; dust cuts with sulfur powder before potting.
Tuber Division: Cut healthy tubers (each with 1–2 buds), dry cuts, and plant in moist vermiculite (germination in 2–4 weeks at 25°C).
Stem Cuttings: Take semi-woody stems with aerial roots, dip in rooting hormone, and root in sphagnum moss or perlite under high humidity (roots form in 3–6 weeks).
For rare cultivars (e.g., Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’), sterile tissue culture ensures mass cloning.
